Data Governance Specialist

Overview

We’re looking for a Data Governance Specialist to join one of our Data Governance & Data Management teams. You’ll help establish and maintain the policies, standards, and processes that ensure data is accurate, trusted, secure, and well-managed across the organization. You’ll work closely with business stakeholders, Data Owners, Data Stewards, Data Engineers, and BI teams to improve data quality, metadata management, lineage, and compliance.

Requirements

Data governance & policies

  • Support the definition, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization’s Data Governance framework.
  • Develop and maintain data governance policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to promote consistent data management processes.
  • Define roles and responsibilities for Data Owners, Data Stewards, and other governance stakeholders.
  • Ensure governance processes are aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the adoption of data governance across projects and business initiatives.

Metadata & data catalog

  • Maintain business and technical metadata within the enterprise data catalog.
  • Ensure business definitions, technical metadata, and ownership information remain accurate and up to date.
  • Support the documentation of critical data elements, business glossaries, and metadata standards.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to maintain data lineage between source and target systems.
  • Improve metadata quality and promote consistent documentation practices.
  • Support users in navigating and understanding enterprise data assets.

Data quality & data integrity

  • Define and maintain data quality rules, controls, and validation processes.
  • Monitor data quality metrics and investigate data quality issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis and coordinate remediation activities with business and technical teams.
  • Support implementation of automated data quality monitoring.
  • Track data quality improvements and report governance KPIs.
  • Promote continuous improvement of data quality across the organization.

Data lineage & traceability

  • Document and maintain end-to-end data lineage across enterprise systems.
  • Analyze data flows and identify dependencies between applications, databases, and reporting solutions.
  • Support impact analysis for system changes affecting data assets.
  • Ensure transformation rules and data movements are properly documented.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers and Solution Architects to maintain accurate lineage information.
  • Contribute to governance standards for metadata and lineage management.

Compliance & data risk

  • Support compliance with internal policies and external regulations related to data management.
  • Identify governance risks related to data quality, ownership, accessibility, and security.
  • Participate in governance reviews and data audits.
  • Collaborate with Security, Risk, and Compliance teams where required.
  • Support implementation of data classification and data protection standards.
  • Contribute to governance reporting and audit readiness activities.

Stakeholder collaboration & support

  • Partner with business teams, Data Owners, Data Stewards, and technical teams to improve data governance maturity.
  • Facilitate governance workshops and support governance initiatives.
  • Provide guidance on metadata, data quality, and governance best practices.
  • Support users in understanding governance processes and data standards.
  • Contribute to governance documentation, training materials, and knowledge sharing.

Desired profile

Must-have

  • University degree in Computer Science, Economic Informatics, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Quality, Business Intelligence, or related roles.
  • Good understanding of Data Governance principles, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
  • Experience working with business glossaries, data catalogs, or metadata repositories.
  • Understanding of data lineage and enterprise data flows.
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience documenting business processes, standards, and governance procedures.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Data Governance tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica, Alation, or Atlan.
  • Familiarity with data quality tools and metadata management platforms.
  • Knowledge of GDPR and data privacy principles.
  • Experience in Banking, Retail, Insurance, or Telco industries.
  • SQL knowledge and understanding of relational databases.
  • DAMA CDMP certification or other Data Management certifications.
